This week we go hard, for the off-season. Which Tom Emanski hat does Fred McGriff choose? We check the short list of MLB players from New Hampshire (it’s quick) and look at numbers if everybody played at Coors field throughout baseball history. In our main segment we chronicle the man who is thought to be the grand father of the knuckleball, Toad Ramsey. His story was made for Two Strike Noise, childhood injury, drinks alot, played while is disguise after being kicked out of a game…only two of those things are true but they could all happen to him. Wax Pack Heroes takes on some 1990 cards where one of us pulls our favorite and least favorite player of all time.

Alot to unpack this week! It is the quintessential off-season show. Word games, baseball and wrestling cross overs, big guys stealing bags, disasters at large hotels and of course the obligatory Rickey Henderson factoid. In out main segment, we relive the first month of the Baltimore Orioles 1988 season. It was over before it started really. The O’s found new and inventive ways to lose 21 straight games to start the season. We’ll remember them all as well as some of the ways players and fans tried to break the streak. We have a couple of curated packs this week for Wax Pack Heroes as we open some cards from the 1981 season, definitely haven’t pulled some of these guys before!

We may be in the off-season but we found a way you can still listen to a game while drifting off to sleep, baseball ASMR. Plus we check in with the Fighters new stadium where they apparently forgot to measure, remember a great Rick Sutcliffe story and talk some Saved By the Bell Fantasy Camp. Our main story is about a big guy who hit some monster home runs but did not like being a baseball player it seems, Dave Kingman. We hear about some of his biggest and longest dingers as well as his ice cream parlor? Then we rip some 2000 Topps in Wax Pack Heroes.

We’re back at it this week where we discuss a former show favorite who was cast in the original movie production of Grease but turned down the role. Who was it? Then we dive into the Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee’s final ballot and go through all of the numbers as well as some other equally important things about each player like quality of nicknames, controversies and ofcourse pop culture relevance. Taking all of that into account, we have two new Hall of Fame members that will no doubt open the flood gates for some other players that have been left out for one specific reason. Don’t blame us! We’re just adding the number up! Finally, a quick version of Wax Pack Heroes with some 1990 Donruss.

The baseball season is over, but fret not, we have another action packed podcast about nothing but, wait for it…baseball. We’ve got all the odd facts and records from this year’s post-season, a mascot beaning, Randy Johnson tipping pitches, Jose Canseco spouting off on social media again and some Ted Williams numbers that reinforce the fact that Ted Williams was good at baseball. In this edition of Tales from the Dugout, we hear about a Phillies fan’s bathroom, you’re going to have to listen to figure that one out. Juan Soto’s debut time machine, a pitcher that literally gave his all for his team and Ichiro’s hit number compared to other 27 year old rookies. In Wax Pack Heroes we stake another stab at some minor league cards with much better results than last time.

We start out the final week of MLB this year with some World Series talk, some cryptic comments from the commissioner about extra innings next season, we check in on the Climax Series from the NPB, rehash some David Wells memorabilia video and answer our first round of trivia for the off season. In our main segment, we talk about one of the best lead off batters from the 70’s in Mick the Quick, Mickey Rivers. He was always a threat on the base paths and a favorite in the locker room with both teammates and reporters. His speed on the bases was matched only by his quick wit. Then, in an epic Wax Pack Heroes, we open some 1991 Score and score (get it) not one, but two Ozzie Canseco cards! It went downhill from there.

It’s World Series time! We get ready as MLB wraps up the season by looking forward to some more baseball across the world to keep us busy until spring, plus we find out what the dictionary thinks about Hunter Strickland, we look at players who have played for their namesake, have what might be our final debut of the season and dip our toes in the trivia pool for the first time since March! Our main segment this week documents the history of balls. Get your mind out of the gutter, we’re talking pitched balls and umpires were actually forced to call them and why they were considered unmanly as a way of getting on base. This week in BP, which #MLB playoff announcer has surprised us, what was Randy Johnson’s tell and a very large fine is levied but to whom? Our main story this week is about the aptly named Moon Man, Greg Minton. The nickname fit him for a couple of reasons, but the original one is kinda gross, just like his sinker. It was almost un-hittable for a while. The Moon Man also applies to some of Greg pranks, right up our alley. In Wax Pack Heroes we rip some 1988 Fleer. Hint one pack is pretty good, the other is not.

So much MLB playoff stuff to get through in our BP segment, new units of measurements, last games for Hall of Famers, the Seattle Mariners pacing the league in the past 20 seasons, some outstanding (but not in a good way) caught stealing numbers and a truly forgettable unforgettable debut. In our main segment, we recap the first real HR race since Maris’ 1961 season, Cecil Fielder and his 51 long balls in 1990 plus some other highs and lows of Big Daddy’s career. In Wax Pack Heroes we open some 2000 Topps and get some big names, a couple of whom we don’t want to talk about (but still do).
