We talk Hall of Fame pitchers and awards as well as look which jersey numbers produce the most WAR both recently and historically and the debuts segments is chalked full of some of the greatest names we’ve seen yet. Episode 174 - All Star Week Mishaps

The All Star break is upon us and this week we take time out to remember some All Star Game mishaps. Mainly, alot of players wearing equipment that belongs to teams they do not play for. It’s like a game of musical batting helmets as players scramble to replace lost or forgotten equipment. Plus, we tracked down the Saturday Night Live skit with Tracy Morgan playing Jermaine Allensworth, get an update on a current player looking to wear real stirrups and have one of the biggest weeks of debuts ever. This week we catch up with a crazy triple play, position players pitching, the passing of a scouting & radar gun holding Dodger legend and some very interesting debuts. In our Tales from the Dugout section we talk about pace of play versus other sports and some of baseball’s biggest meltdowns inspired by Chris Sales tantrum last week. Special episode this week where we open listener curated packs of baseball cards, this time from the 1920’s and 30’s. While the cards were re-prints the names were classic. Episode 170 - Brien Taylor, the Best That Almost Was

This week we ponder what walk up music is most likely to break a slump: Nickleback or Dolly Parton? We also might have heard the best nick name in college baseball whom also just happens to swing the biggest bat in NCAA history. For our main subject this week, Brien Taylor. His cards were the holy grail for collectors in the early 90’s. Scouts called him the best prospect they’d ever seen. Scott Boras jumped at the chance to get as much money from the Yankees as he could (and did). But a family fight led to the best that almost was bouncing between surgeries, jobs and prison. Episode 169 - Playing Chicken with Wade Boggs

Mark and Jeff have to come clean about their Cardinals/Carpenter knowledge plus an early review of the new Rickey Henderson book. Lars Nootbaar had a big week so of course we had to review it as well as remember a current MLB managers acting debut north of the border. Wade Boggs is the main topic of the week, the batting titles, the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry, overcoming his fear of horses to ride around Yankee Stadium in 1996 and of course the beer. Wade was everywhere in pop culture in the 80’s and 90’s and we have the receipts! Finally, in Wax Pack Heroes we rip what might be the greatest pack we have ever opened, but who opened it?
