Around the world everybody knows of the New York Yankees. But, do you know where they originated? This week we did a deep dive into the history of the location and nicknames of the four biggest baseball clubs that have called New York City home. This includes ofcourse the Porchclimbers and the Buglars! Mark and Jeff also go head to head in Wax Pack Heroes for the first time in a long time with dualing packs of 1986 Donruss. Former Mariners outfielder Shane Monahan joins us this week to talk about his time in the big leagues. What was going on with his hair when he was first called up? What was it like playing in Yankee Stadium for the first time? How much money in quarters did the fans in the bleachers throw at him exactly? Shane doesn’t disappoint, he’s got alot of great stories from both the minors and the bigs. Plus, Shane plays Wax Pack Hero with us with a pack of 1991 Score leading to a great story about one of the biggest stars of the early 2000’s, Spring Training, the middle of the desert and a broken down motorcycle.

Author Jacob Kornhauser joins us talk about his book The Cup of Coffee Club. Jacob highlights some true “cup of coffee” guys. These are players who appeared in only a single game in their major league career, and in one case, the word appeared is all they did. Hear how each player handled a much shorter version of what they hoped would have been a long career in the majors. A couple of the names we’ve covered in the past, but Jacob offers a much more in depth look at their short careers. Wax Pack Hero is a pack of 1988 Fleer this week and it was looking kind of tough until a member of the Pacific Sock Exchange showed up.

This week is the second part of our interview with former MLB pitcher Sean Lowe. Sean pitched in the heart of the steroid era against some of it’s biggest abusers. Hear what he says when we ask him if he would rather face a PED-enhanced batter or one who knew what pitch was coming. He also had some interesting insight on the Astros trashcan banging scandal. Before we played Wax Pack Heroes with Sean, we discussed some of his cards, including his first one on which he did not actually appear on. The actual Wax Pack Hero segment is full of personal stories as Sean knew almost every single player we pulled form the 1992 Score pack.

Former MLB pitcher Sean Lowe joins us this week. He was a first round draft pick by the Cardinals out of Arizona State and went on to play 7 years in the big leagues with the Cards, White Sox, Pirates, Rockies and Royals. Sean tells us about how he found out we was getting called up the first time, his first & only professional HR (you’ll be surprised what he did after that game) and being part of one of the biggest brawls in MLB history when the Tigers and the White Sox squared off three separate times during a game in 2000, resulting in 16 players being suspended for a total of 82 games. He had such great stories we had to break this one up into two episodes!

This week author Brad Balukjian joins us to talk about his new book, The Wax Pack, On the Road In Search of Baseball’s Afterlife. We don’t want to say it was our interview, but, after talking with us the New York Post named it one of the best books of the week. Brad’s journey started with a pack of 1986 Topps, from there he journeyed across the country in search of what each of those players was now up to.
