As promised last week, we look at Honus Wagner’s pitching career (what?), Don Mattingly roasts Paul O’Neill on the air, we look at next year’s MLB Hall of Fame probables, talk last names and ofcourse talk baseball debuts. Our main story this week is about a Negro League and Major League Baseball legend we are embarrassed to admit we had never even heard of, Lucius Luke Easter. He was a giant man who swung a giant bat and hit monster home runs. His career was derailed by injuries and prejudice. He was loved wherever he played and met a tragic end while standing up for his friends. A couple of days late but still full of MLB frivolity. Mark and Jeff kick around the idea of a “Legends” home run derby, review Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio’s numbers during “the streak” and learn about a kid getting thrown in jail for keeping a foul ball. Very strong class of debuts for this week where Luis Tiant might be the weakest link if that tells you how good it is. Our main story this week is about Dick Higham, player, manager and umpire who definitely was never on the take despite the letter he sent to his bookie telling him to bet money on when he was umpiring.
